The African American Family Conference (AAFC) is a community event designed to provide answers, resources and guidance to families and communities.
The conference embraces an environment where participants can contribute by sharing their experiences through communication and an honest exchange of knowledge. However, unlike other conferences, the focus of the AAFC is to raise funds and provide a platform to connect, educate and exchange information and resources with families, communities and organizations during the conference and beyond via the AAFC Aftercare Program. All aspects of the AAFC Aftercare Program initiative will be evaluated and documented on film to record the process, monitor the progress and provide comprehensive outcome reports to continue to develop a more cohesive initiative for the future. We strongly feel this is the most effective way to provide free assistance to families and communities year round.
The conference offers eight (8) pavillions to address several issues facing families and communities. Each pavillion consists of workshops, resource tables, products and services from various organizations, government agencies, corporations and individuals.
The eight (8) pavilions are defined as follows:
AAFC Health & Fitness Pavilion: Diet, exercise, insurance, health screenings, mental, physical, spiritual & occupational health information and services.
AAFC Education Pavilion: Resources, information sessions and workshops from early childhood
education to graduate school, vocational & trade schools.
AAFC Children’s Pavilion: Interactive activities and fun educational games.
AAFC Senior’s Pavilion: Information sessions, workshops and resources for seniors citizens.
AAFC Family Pavilion: Information sessions, workshops and resources for diverse family units;
married couples, single parents, dual headed households, blended/step-parent families, grandparents raising grandchildren, foster families and legal guardians.
AAFC Community Pavilion: Information sessions, resources and workshops to promote safe, healthy and productive communities.
AAFC Teen Pavilion: Information sessions, workshops and resources on education, teen parenting, violence, sex and drug awareness campaigns.
AAFC Arts & Culture Pavilion: Film screenings, lectures, exhibits, resources and information on diverse cultures.
The AAFC has been carefully designed to unite practitioners, programs and educators with families to interact in open forums and workshops. This concerted effort will achieve stronger, sound family units which ultimately builds more cohesive communities, decreasing the number of violence, poverty and other negative social ills.
